Hannes Minnaar recital programme

In recital the press have spoken of Hannes Minnaar's performances as "free of bluff and swagger and....in deference to the music at all times" (NRC Handelsbad). TROUW dutch paper wrote of his Concertgebouw Recital debut "Hannes Minnaar is not a pianist who uses the music to showcase his tricks. Rather, it is the other way around: he makes a maximum effort to make the music speak".

PROGRAMME I

BACH Goldberg Variations, BWV 988

DAAN MANNEKE Gedanken zu Bach

During the pandemic when lockdown was released in Holland in Summer 2019, Hannes Minnaar set about a tour of Holland's magnificent churches performing this extraordinary work to socially distanced audiences. 2021/22 saw the disc release of Hannes's Goldberg's which in Summer 2019 was streamed from one of these memorable performances.  See the livestream here. "Bach’s Goldbergs, of course, need no special pleading, while Hannes Minnaar’s pianistic distinction deserves serious attention", Jed Distler, Classics Today.

PROGRAMME II

SHOSTAKOVICH Preludes & Fugues, Books 1 and 2, Op. 87

Offered as a two part performance (with extended interval), or a recital evening combining Chopin preludes.

After his focus in recent years on JS Bach's Goldberg's Variations it is perhaps no surprise to see Hannes delve into the world of Shostakovich and the compositions that perhaps took their inspiration directly from another of Bach's extraordinary keyboard works, Well-Tempered Clavier. This programme will also be supported by the release of his next solo CD of the Shostakovich works.
