Armida Quartet commission by Brett Dean, Madame ma bonne sœur, wins Ivor Novello Award 2022

It was high on the Armida Quartet’s ‘wish list’ to find a new work from Brett Dean which resulted in his cycle for mezzo and string quartet, Madame ma bonne soeur (2021). With libretto by Matthew Jocelyn the piece was co-commissioned by the Mecklenberg Vorpommern Festival and Oxford Lieder Festival in 2021. On 15th November 2022 at the Ivor Novello Composers Awards "celebrating creative excellence in UK classical, jazz and sound arts" the work won in the chamber category. The composer was there to collect his award alongside his daughter and interpreter of the work, Lotte Betts-Dean. Congratulations Brett!
